Just like the original story, in the hip-hop version Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling mice, visiting the land of sweets, and learning the lessons of the holiday season. But in this re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from 19th-century Germany to present-day New York City. November 26 - December 24 The European wonderland that is Christmas Village in LOVE Park officially returns on Thanksgiving Day with glowing Herrnhut stars decorating the tops of the wooden booths of 60 different vendors (half the number from previous years). On offer: local and international gifts such as Käthe Wohlfahrt ornaments, three-dimensional house stars, wintry apparel and more. Additional vendors also set up on the north apron of City Hall and in the City Hall courtyard, where the Holiday Carousel sits. To keep visitors safe, the village has adopted a new socially distanced layout as well as a new separated food area. Holiday Garden Railway at Morris Arboretum November 27 - December 31 The annual Holiday Garden Railway brings a mini-winter wonderland to the historic Morris Arboretum, with a quarter-mile of track where G-scale model trains chug along loops, through tunnels and over bridges, past perfect little replicas of beloved Philadelphia landmarks. On Saturday and Sunday evenings throughout the display’s run, guests enjoy the railway amid thousands of twinkling lights during Holiday Garden Railway Nights. Lighted trees and other colored lights make the garden even more magical. Advanced tickets are required. Deck the Hall Holiday Lights at City Hall Continuously through January 1st The Deck the Hall Holiday Lights have returned to brighten the western façade of City Hall nightly for another holiday season. Technicolor projections — created by Klip Collective and synchronized to sound effects — animate the historic building at this completely free show. For 2020, the illumination plays continuously on a 30-minute loop to discourage crowding. The lights join other holiday happenings at or near City Hall, including holiday shopping at Christmas Village in Philadelphia in LOVE Park and the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market, as well as ice skating, food and drinks during Winter at Dilworth Park. |
