Philly EventsKambel Smith: Building Thursday March 24th 2022 to Thursday May 26th 2022 Fleisher/Ollman proudly presents Kambel Smith: Building, his second solo exhibition at the gallery. Smith makes stunning, large-scale sculptural re-creations of iconic architecture. Working in cardboard (sourced mainly from the trash), foam board, glue, paint, and a range of media, Smith, who is self-taught, pays close attention to replicating detailed architectural features. Sculptures in the exhibition will include Philadelphia’s Chinatown Arch; New York City’s Times Square, and the Woolworth and Flat Iron buildings; and Washington D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Where: Fleisher/Ollman Gallery, 915 Spring Garden Street, Suite 215, Philadelphia, PA 19123 Memorial Day Weekend at the Museum Friday May 27th 2022 at 10:00am to Monday May 30th 2022 at 5:00pm Join the Museum over Memorial Day Weekend to pay tribute onsite and online to the men and women who lost their lives in service to their country during the Revolutionary War and celebrate the freedoms they fought to secure for future generations. Where: Museum of The American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 KAY SEOHYUNG LEE | mess Friday April 29th 2022 to Saturday June 11th 2022 Pentimenti Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of the work of Kay Seohyung Lee. This is the artist’s first show at Pentimenti, and her first solo exhibition in the United States. Kay Seohyung Lee constructs an ecstatic, dire realm of visions and dreams in gouache on panel. In making sense of her interior and exterior worlds, Lee paints vibrant tableaus of uniformly nude women, tangled up in each other and their surreal surroundings, and enmeshed in chaotic and meticulously choreographed dances with a host of different characters and symbols. Where: Pentimenti Gallery, 145 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 Gesture as object Friday April 29th 2022 to Saturday June 11th 2022 Pentimenti Gallery is thrilled to host a solo exhibition of the work of Donald Martiny. Known for his large-scale paintings that call to mind giant brushstrokes, Donald Martiny isolates and re-contextualizes the movement and materiality of mark-making. In gesture as object, Martiny presents work that plainly and decisively describes the specific motion at the core of its creation. As well, the works activate the wall as a potential canvas, and enter into a dynamic repartee with the viewer.
