Art of Survival is an intimate short documentary about a place and a spirit. From 2017 until early 2020, the Kensington Storefront studio offered people in Kensington a free cup of coffee, a snack and a chance to express themselves by drawing, painting, weaving or joining in a musical performance. There were no preconditions, no expectations—just the agreement to treat each other with civility and respect. Museum for Art in Wood presents “The Mashrabiya Project”
12:00pm to 5:00pm everyday until Sunday July 23rd 2023 The Museum for Art in Wood unveils The Mashrabiya Project, an international exhibition, interactive programming, shared making experience, and publication showcasing and exploring the significance of the wood-turned mashrabiya. Curated by The Museum for Art in Wood’s Executive Director and Chief Curator Jennifer-Navva Milliken, this will be the first effort in the U.S. to examine this architectural object and its prominence in Islamic and Egyptian craft while highlighting its greater cultural significance. The Museum for Art in Wood will present a multi-disciplinary exhibition featuring commissioned, never-before-seen works from six international artists and host hybrid programming to encourage further public engagement and discussion. |
