Events in Philly: Free Ice skating in Philadelphia Discover your inner figure skater at one of the City of Philadelphia's public ice skating rinks this winter. Sign up in advance for a free timed session, and bring your own skates or rent for a small, cash-only fee ($3-4). Rizzo Ice Rink (South Philly) and Laura Sims Skate House (West Philly) are open on select days, and Scanlon Ice Rink (Kensington) opens for the season on Friday. Two additional rinks are set to open by March 1. In-person Events at the Academy of Natural Sciences Admission to The Academy of Natural Sciences on Saturday includes activities for human families to learn about how animal families stick together. Stop by the auditorium for a special program, and don't forget your take-home craft kit. The Academy also has two exhibits on display: Permian Monsters: Life before the dinosaurs and Wildlife photographer of the year. More info here.

February 12-15 The National Constitution Center in Old City reopens just in time for a packed Presidents Day weekend, complete with interactive trivia games (with questions like, “Who’s the only president from Pennsylvania?”), presidential role-play scenarios and more, taking place throughout the entirety of the long weekend (Friday through Monday). Nearby at the Museum of the American Revolution, programming includes take-and-make crafts and the signature Washington’s War Tent experience, as well as virtual activities and tours (Friday through Monday). The museum’s current exhibit, When Women Lost the Vote: A Revolutionary Story, is available in person and online. Browse three exhibitions from The African American Museum in Philadelphia any time and check out a documentary about racial bias in artificial intelligence (Thursday); register for one (or all!) of the dozens of author talks and events with the Free Library of Philadelphia; buy from Black and Indigenous people of color at the virtual Feminist Flea Market; and hear from an expert about the connection between iconic architecture and slavery during a Penn Museum event. Plus, the National Constitution Center’s groundbreaking exhibit about post-Civil War constitutional amendments is available online any time. Danny Simmons ... Studio Time at The Inliquid Gallery at Crane Arts Through Saturday, February 20 During his COVID-19 stay-at-home period, painter Danny Simmons crafted a collection of colorful, swirling mazes that evoke all the emotions that have come with the pandemic. To see the works — on view through February 20 at The Inliquid Gallery — make an appointment or stop by between noon and 5 p.m. on weekends. Winter at Dilworth Park Ice Rink & cabin: through February 28 Wintergarden: through April Delightful pop ups abound in Dilworth Park every winter. Folks can embrace the season by cruising around the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink, offering timed, 90-minute skating sessions; stroll through the Wintergarden on the Greenfield Lawn, an open-air wonderland of lights, topiaries and rustic décor perfect for photo ops; and relax in the Rothman Orthopedics Cabin, where seasonal cocktails and food await in an open-air set up.
