At Penn Museum, Leon shares the stories of his journey as a preview of his book, film, and multimedia site “Wounded Tigris: A River Journey Through the Cradle of Civilization,” which will be made public in 2023. Plunge into studies by a Penn Museum biomolecular archaeologist who collected samples of fermented beverages from ancient vessels and brought some of these potent “time capsules” back to life using chemical analysis. And at the tour’s end, sit down in the Museum Café with your own taste-test of Flying Fish Exit 3 Blueberry Braggot—a beer that tastes very similar to an ancient recipe discovered by a Penn biomolecular archaeologist! ELP EventsThe Summer 1 End of Session Party will be held at the Blue Cross River Rink on Thursday, June 16th. The ELP will be buying passes for anyone who wants to roller skate + we will be giving tickets towards other rides/games/snacks! There will be other food and drinks for your own purchase as well. We are looking for continuing ELP students to volunteer as Student Ambassadors for the Summer 2, 2022 session. Student Ambassadors are leaders of the ELP student body! They play an essential role in Orientation and will have the opportunity to lead other activities and act as a liaison between students and staff. As an ambassador, you will receive an ELP t-shirt.

Learn more about ancient and world cultures through live virtual interactive workshops and hands-on making activities. Let’s travel from East to West as we learn more about adornment and fashion through the ages! Our first stop is ancient China, where we will look closely at the animals, colors, and symbols on embroidered squares called Buzi, worn by important people during the Qing dynasty. Get inspired to create your own unique design! Then learn about the specific materials and making process of traditional moccasins belonging to members of First Nations of North America. Look closely at images of this style of footwear to strengthen your understanding of the meanings woven into their designs. Continue your learning experience by exploring the digital resources in our virtual classroom space, before or after the program.
