Philly EventsCenter City Jazz Festival Saturday, April 22, 2023 | 1-7 p.m. The ninth annual Center City Jazz Festival features six hours of jazz performances spread across five iconic venues — all within walking distance of one another. Tickets grant access to performances at Franky Bradley’s, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Fergie’s Pub, TIME Restaurant and Leda’s Cocktail Lounge. Where: Franky Bradley's, 1320 Chancellor Street Artist Tour: The Future Will Follow the Past: An Exhibition by Jonathan Horowitz at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History Sunday, April 23, 2023 | 1:30 p.m. New York City-based artist Jonathan Horowitz visits The Weitzman to lead a special tour of his timely exhibition exploring antisemitism, racial violence, immigration, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and more. Glean behind-the-scenes insights into several stunning works in the exhibition, including a bedazzled American/Pride flag mashup titled Rainbow American Flag for Jasper in the Style of the Artist’s Boyfriend. Horowitz returns to lead additional tours on May 21 and June 25, 2023. Tickets are required. The exhibition is on display through the end of the year. Independence Ml East Parks on Tap: Columbus Square April 19-23, 2023 Philly’s roving beer garden brings brews and bites to parks and green spaces in neighborhoods in nearly every corner of the city this year. This week, Parks on Tap sets up shop in Columbus Square in the Passyunk Square section of South Philly. Enjoy draft beers from Mainstay Independent Brewing, cocktails, and finger foods and sandwiches. The taps flow from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Where: Columbus Square, 1200 Wharton Street The Philadelphia Orchestra: Beethoven Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”) Thursday April 20th 2023, 7:30pm to 9:30pm Saturday April 22nd 2023, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Beethoven’s towering Third Symphony offers a vast ode to heroism, revolution, and freedom. The “Eroica” is considered by many to be the greatest of not just Beethoven's symphonies but the greatest of all time. Hailed by the New York Times as “one of the most admired pianists of his generation,” Inon Barnatan joins conductor Karina Canellakis and the Orchestra for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24. Brooding, poignant themes set this concerto apart from Mozart’s others, along with its composition for a large orchestra featuring oboes and clarinets. April 21 - July 16, 2023 Lace up! This spring, the Rothman Orthopaedics Roller Rink at Dilworth Park paints the town rainbow with colorful springtime skate sessions. Vibrant overhead art and the checkerboard rink floor bring good times and retro vibes. For more fun, chow down at the Dilworth Park Café, fuel up at the Air Grille pop-up beer garden or hop your way through the Dilworth Park dancing fountain. Advance reservations for hour-long skating sessions are strongly recommended, and discounted matinee skate sessions are offered Mondays and Tuesdays. Go through our inflatable obstacle course then stop by one of our spring vendors. After you can get a drawing by a caricature artist and grab a freeze pop and one of our live plant giveaways. Lastly, make sure to stop by a the Elmwood Park Zoo pop-up and meet some of the LIVE mystery animals brought to you straight from the zoo. You won't wanna miss this day of fun! When: Thursday, April 20 | 12pm-4pm Where: Houston Hall, Penn Commons The Penn Relays Campus Cup Watch teams of faculty and staff compete for the trophy in a series of events including a 4x100 relay race, potato sack, tug-of-war, and more! Campus Cup is a challenge that will award cumulative participation and competition points over a series of events throughout each school year. Events include basketball, dodgeball, attending Penn Varsity meets and games, and more! Teams consist of Penn employees from departments all over campus and teams compete for prizes like apparel, Penn Relays tickets, gift cards, and trophies. Every year Penn Athletics and Recreation wrap up this year-long event by hosting a Penn Relays Campus Cup event on Franklin Field competing in all different events, such as track races, three-legged races, tug-of-war, bean bag races, softball throws and more!
